Funded PhD candidates at the OMDS
Funded PhD candidates obtain a university- or third-party funded position (“praedoc”) at the University of Vienna under the supervision of a Principal Investigator of the OMDS. As OMDS members, you benefit from the supervisory structure of the doctoral school, organize and/or take part in cohort-related activities, and can apply for additional funding for research and travel expenses.
Step 1: Application for an Open Position

Step 2: Admission to the PhD Program
You must apply for admission to the PhD/doctoral program (i.e., to enroll as a PhD student). This is a separate procedure from application for a Praedoc position (i.e., to become employed at the University of Vienna).

Step 3: Registration for OMDS Membership
The OMDS members take advantage of myriad opportunities and support available at the school – from travel funds to engaging seminars, workshops and cohort-building activities.
To officially become a member at the OMDS, please submit the registration form and provide your consent to the Code of Good Practice of the Doctoral Schools at the University of Vienna.
